I think it's related to energy/power assigned to Bluetooth by the computer (Macbook Pro amd64 in my case). I had been using my WH-XB900N for 1 year with no problem, but once I connected two additional Bluetooth paired devices and unplugged my computer's charge cord, I got the same terrible quality others here have described..
